I have deliberated over the past few days of the new year whether or not to create new year's resolutions for 2012. While the idea of resolutions always seem appealing as we leave all the bad habits (presumably) behind in the past year, by week three of January unseen progress makes these resolutions frustrating, unmanageable and ultimately disappear. I have decided that by blogging about my resolutions for 2012 and committing myself to accomplishing at least one of my goals a day for a year, I will stay focused on my goals and have accomplished personal growth in 2012. Writing about these goals with keep me on track and also keep a record of all the interesting things I am doing in this new year.
1.GET IN SHAPE
Okay, who's new year resolution isn't to get in shape? I want to work on improving my stamina, building muscle and losing fat. I vow to exercise at the gym at least three times per week and keep up my fitness when not attending the gym. This includes running and cardio and I want to try yoga as well.
2. EAT HEALTHY
This goes hand in hand with getting in shape. I tend to eat fairly healthy but throughout the semester I found myself eating more processed foods and not enough vegetables. I will try to incorporate veggies into all of my meals and make healthy alternatives to the granola bars and cheezits that I live on. I want to start reading labels more carefully and buying organic.
3. BUDGET
I need to get my budget in shape! I spent way to much money eating out this past semester and on unnecessary purchases. I will start using coupons when I go to the supermarket and I will not buy magazines, make-up I don't need or clothes I don't need. I have everything I need right now and I need to stop convincing myself that buying things will make me happy. I want to do some travelling this summer so I will be opening up a savings account when I get back to school.
4. PICTURES
I want to take so many more pictures! Time is flying by and I unfortunately don't have many pictures from this past semester which kind of bummed me out. I have a camera so I'm going to start using it more often and bringing it with me.
5. CAREER
This year is important for me because I will be graduating at the end of it! Its scary but exciting and I want to be prepared for what comes next. This includes taking the GRE's, applying to graduate programs, finding financial aid and possibly applying to jobs post-graduation. As of now I am strongly considering advancing my degree with a Master's in Public Policy so I will be focusing on raising my grades to achieve this.
6. CREATIVE DATES
I love my boyfriend but I feel like most of our dates include diner/movie. While I love this, I know that we will both be budgeting this semester. I want to plan fun dates that are low-cost and help us bond. I love spending time with my boyfriend and activities like free museums, free concerts and outdoor activities will help us bond and strengthen out creative minds (and save us money!)
7. READ MORE
I love reading. I feel like I never get enough time to sit down and read a book, but I always have plenty of time to web surf. I will try to read pleasure books as often as I can, and get a library card.
8. LEARN HOW TO COOK
I have recently discovered cooking, and I love it! I want to cook more often and try out different dishes.
9. BE CREATIVE
I really want to be more creative. I love fashion, and it could mean creating inspiration boards to hang in my room, or thrifting to find great outfits. I have also recently taken up knitting and like I mentioned earlier, I have been interested in photography.
So these are my resolutions, they seem a little overwhelming right now, but I really want to commit myself to posting once a day about something I accomplished. Like today I spent 30 minutes knitting, researched grad programs and started a new book. Hopefully these will keep me happy and positive throughout the year and I can look back at all of my accomplishments once I am done!
